DIY Poco X3 Pro Battery Upgrade: From 5000mAh to 10,000mAh

In this video, I’ll show you a DIY Poco X3 Pro Battery Upgrade from 5000mAh to 10,000mAh, fixing the bloated battery issue safely at home.

If you’ve owned a Poco X3 Pro, chances are you’ve faced two common issues:

  1. Motherboard failures (thankfully, mine was replaced under warranty)
  2. Battery bloating after a couple of years of use

When my Poco X3 Pro battery started swelling, the phone’s body was deforming, and it became unsafe to use. The official service center offered me a replacement—but the problem was, the “new” batteries were actually manufactured in 2021, making them already 3 years old!

So, instead of accepting a half-solution, I went the DIY route.

🔋 The DIY Battery Upgrade

  • The Poco X3 originally comes with a 5000mAh battery.
  • I upgraded it with a 10,000mAh lithium polymer battery salvaged from a power bank.
  • The phone now runs almost double the time, with excellent screen-on hours.

🔧 Key Steps in the Process

  1. Extracting the original charge controller chip from the old battery.
  2. Soldering the new battery (with correct polarity) to this controller.
  3. Case modification: Cutting the back panel to fit the larger battery.
  4. Software tweaks: On rooted devices, limiting charging current and voltage for safety.
  5. Proper insulation: Ensuring no exposed terminals to prevent short circuits or fire risks.

📱 Bonus: Reviving My Old Mi A1

I applied a similar method to my Mi A1, using 18650 lithium-ion batteries. With software adjustments, the phone still works perfectly after more than two years.

⚠️ Safety Warning

This is not a beginner project. Lithium batteries are volatile and mishandling them can cause fire or explosion. Always:

  • Work with proper tools
  • Use insulation materials
  • Limit charging speeds
  • Attempt only if you’re confident with soldering and electronics

✅ Final Thoughts

Instead of throwing away a great phone, DIY battery upgrades can breathe new life into your devices. My Poco X3 now has nearly double the capacity, and my Mi A1 is still running strong after years.
