by Welcome back to HowISolve.com! I’ve had the TCL C6K TV mounted in my setup for almost 10 months now. Over that time, I’ve put it through its paces, customized its software, and discovered a few hidden secrets—both good and bad.
If you are wondering how this TV holds up over the long haul, here is my honest, long-term review covering the pros, the cons, and the absolute dealbreakers.
The Cons: Where the TCL C6K Falls Short
Let’s start with the bad news first, because there are a few glaring issues that potential buyers need to be aware of.
1. Severe Dust Intrusion (The Dealbreaker) The biggest flaw with the TCL C6K is structural. Unlike traditional TVs that house the motherboard in a separate compartment at the bottom, the C6K features a slim, unibody design. The ventilation holes are located at the top of the chassis. Over time, dust gets sucked in to cool the MediaTek Pentonic 700 CPU, but that dust gets trapped inside the panel.
Electrostatic forces stick this dust to the white diffusion sheet, creating dark patches and banding that are highly visible on light or uniform backgrounds (like watching a cricket match). The only fix is a risky, complete panel disassembly.
2. Forced OS Updates As I’ve covered in my debloating guides, I completely disabled OS updates on this TV to avoid buggy new releases. Yet, TCL somehow pushed a forced update to Android 14. This introduced new bugs and reversed several custom tweaks, taking away control from the user.
3. Poor Default Picture Settings Out of the box, the standard settings are a mess. The brightness is halved, colors are inaccurate, and reds are heavily overemphasized. While it can be fixed in the settings, the out-of-the-box experience is terrible for an average user.
4. Questionable After-Sales Support If you try to claim a warranty replacement, beware. Numerous users report that TCL replaces defective units with refurbished TVs, not brand-new ones. Often, these replacement units are missing screws or have mismatched serial numbers, which is a highly untransparent practice.
The Pros: Why Power Users Still Love It
Despite the flaws, there are reasons I initially bought this TV, and some of those hold up remarkably well.
1. Incredible Hardware Value At my purchase price of around ₹37,000, the hardware is unmatched. It packs 3GB of RAM, the powerful MediaTek Pentonic 700 processor, and a surprisingly good speaker setup with incredibly clear vocal dialogue.
2. A Truly Unrestricted Android OS Upgraded from Android 12 to Android 14, this TV is a tinkerer’s playground. Unlike the locked-down operating systems from Samsung or LG, this TV lets you debloat system apps, run custom apps like Projectivy Launcher, and play media from external hard drives flawlessly.
3. Endless Customization To counter the bad default settings, TCL includes an exhaustive list of advanced picture, motion, and color settings. If you take the time to tweak it, you can achieve a phenomenal picture.
4. An Old-School, Feature-Rich Remote The remote includes a full 0-9 number pad, which is rare today. By diving into the settings, you can map up to 30 custom channel shortcuts using long-press and double-click actions. (I’ve mapped all my news and sports channels to specific numbers, just like the old days!)
Final Verdict
The TCL C6K offers massive value for hardware nerds and power users who want an unrestricted Android experience and custom launchers. My current standby RAM usage is a buttery-smooth 1.47 GB!
However, because of the dust intrusion issue and the sketchy warranty replacement practices, I cannot recommend this TV to new buyers.
