While updates are usually a good thing, this specific software patch introduced a host of frustrating issues, from halved brightness and a heavy red tint to sluggish app launches and booming audio artifacts. Fortunately, there are ways to calibrate your TV to bypass these issues. Here are the perfect TCL C6K settings to restore its former glory.
The Problem with Android 14 on TCL C6K
After updating to the December 2025 security patch of Android 14, the TV felt older and slower. The memory compression techniques introduced in Android 14 cause app launches to take 1-2 seconds longer, putting a heavy load on the CPU. Furthermore, the balanced color profile of the C6K was completely ruined, leaving a muddy, overly warm image.
(Note: The only positive change was better AV1 codec compatibility for external media players like Nova Player).
1. Fixing Brightness and Contrast
To get your brightness back to an acceptable level, navigate to your Picture Settings under the Standard Mode and apply these tweaks:
- Brightness: 80 (Up from the 60s used in Android 12)
- Contrast / Black Level: 50
- Gamma: 2.2
- Automatic HDR Conversion: OFF (This looks artificial and causes more harm than good)
- Dynamic Contrast: OFF
- Local Dimming: Low
- Peak Brightness: Low (Set to Low, but push to High if you want punchier brightness)
2. Fixing the Red Color Tint
The update inexplicably skewed the TV’s color profile toward an aggressive, warm red. Fix this by balancing the color temperature:
- Color Temperature: Change from Normal to -4.
- Color Space: Change from Native to Custom. Do not adjust the red/green/blue toggles (leave them at 50/50/50). Just flipping the toggle to Custom restores the proper RGB balance.
3. Motion Clarity (Standard vs. Sports Mode)
Motion judder and blur are still present in Android 14. Here is how to handle them:
- Standard Mode: Sharpness 20, Noise Reduction High. Set Motion Clarity to Custom (Blur Reduction 9, Judder Reduction 9).
- Sports Mode (For Cricket/Football): High judder reduction causes ball trails during sports. Switch to the Sports preset and set Motion Clarity to Custom (Blur Reduction 7, Judder Reduction 1).
4. Crystal Clear Audio (Fixing Booming Bass)
The default bass setting causes severe speaker vibration and booming artifacts, drowning out dialogue.
- First, turn Audio Processing to OFF.
- Go to Sound Customization and set the Equalizer to reduce high bass.
- Turn Audio Processing back to Auto.
- Set Dialog Enhancer to Medium, turn on Auto Volume Control, and turn Sound Virtualizer & Bass Enhancer OFF.
5. Speeding Up App Launches
You can’t entirely fix the Android 14 memory compression delay, but you can improve it by about 20% using Developer Options:
- Go to Settings > System > About.
- Tap the Android TV OS Build 5 times to unlock Developer Options.
- Go back to System, open Developer Options, and change these settings:
- Window Animation Scale: OFF
- Transition Animation Scale: OFF
- Animator Duration Scale: 0.5x
- Bonus tip: Switch to “App Only Mode” in the Google Launcher or use Projectivity Launcher to further reduce home screen bloat.
